Colorado Twins Rides Brilliant Pitching to Win the 2020 Larkspur Summer League Championship
The Larkspur 2020 Summer League Championship was decided during the bracket play championships held on August 12th.
The Colorado Reds played brilliantly during the semifinal round. They held a lead for most of their game against the Slammers Titans. But the Slammers were not going to go quietly. They battled back to take the lead in their half of the sixth inning. The Reds then tied it in the bottom of the sixth inning. Owen T drove in the tying run forcing extra innings.
Aggressive baserunning by Jake B proved to be the difference. After stealing third base, the Slammers tried to back pick Jake B. An error gave him the opportunity to score and the Reds the chance to meet the Colorado Twins in the Championship game.
The Colorado twins set the tone for the championship game. Nick M was absolutely brilliant on the mound, as he threw a no-hitter to lead Colorado Twins past Colorado Reds 8-0. Nick M pitched five innings, striking out five and surrendering only one walk.
The Reds did not make it easy on them at all. Their defense kept the game close and they never gave up a big inning to a Twins team that can generally turn on the gas and produce runs. The most they scored was two in the fifth.
The Colorado Twins got things started in the first inning when Kannon S singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run. The twins racked up eleven hits on the day and threatened to pull away in several of the innings but each time the Colorado Reds found a way to make defensive plays limiting the damage.
